A post-graduate student from TU Ilmenau gave a lecture at KNRTU-KAI

16.12.2019

The event was made possible by the joint research of the Department of RTS IRET with the Laboratory for Communication Research (LCR) of TU Ilmenau.

Mikus Grasis, a post-graduate student from TU Ilmenau, gave a lecture for IRET students, post-graduate students and staff titled "Factorization models, algorithms and supplements".

Mr. Grasis' academic interest is developing methods of multi-linear processing.

Those methods have become wide spreading nowadays. In particular, the method is used to process electrical signals recorded from the human body from several channels (EEG, ECG, EMG, etc.). Multidimensional processing methods are actively used in modern radio information transmission systems (4G, 5G, Wi-Fi). Also, search and information systems and services (Google, Amazon, Netflix, etc.) use these methods to index and search for information, generate recommendations and targeted advertising.

The methods of multidimensional processing are based on the principles of linear and tensor algebra, mathematical analysis and probability theory. The processing of signals and data using multidimensional methods allows us to build a more adequate model of the process under study, to reveal their hidden patterns and features.

The implementation of such processing methods has become possible due to the recent rapid development of computer technology, parallel computing methods.

The Department of RTS IRET carries out researches jointly with the Laboratory for Communication Research (LCR) of TU Ilmenau. To do this, internships are regularly organized both at Ilmenau University and at the Department of RTS IRET. The result of joint research is already more than ten joint publications and speeches at international conferences.

The main purpose of the internship of Mikus Gracis is to improve computational algorithms in the implementation of multidimensional processing methods. Based on the results of the internship, he planned to prepare publications jointly with the IRET department.

Mikus Grasys shared his impressions of his stay in Kazan:

- This is my first trip to Russia and to Kazan. Kazan is an interesting, beautiful city. I really like the local architecture. I like that KAI is a practice-oriented university. Dr. Korobkov showed me the laboratory of the department, where students can conduct experiments and directly deal with materials. I can say that the degree of practical interest is higher than in our laboratory in Germany. Students seem really interested in science.
